Maternity Leave
New legislation to postpone maternity leave in cases of serious illness has been passed recently in the Oireachtas.
The prominent measure in the Maternity Protection, Employment Equality and Preservation of Certain Records Bill 2024 allows an employee to postpone Maternity Leave between five and 52 weeks with certification from their doctor.
This form of release will not be to the detriment of other forms of release such as unpaid maternity leave and parental leave.
