Family Law Guidelines – Expert Reports

Justice Minister Helen McEntee on the 13th  June 2024 published a wide-ranging review in relation to family law guidelines governing expert reports.  The object of these expert reports in family law proceedings is to give a voice to the child and also provide recommendations to the Court in relation to custody and access matters.

The review recommends the provision of public funding for welfare reports and voice of the child reports.

It also calls for the establishment of a specific role called the Children’s Court Advocate to assist children in having their voices heard in family law proceedings.

The review also recommends that legislation be introduced in order to regulate the experts who are carrying out the reports.
