New Family Law Act

New major reforms of the Family Law Courts

The new Family Courts Bill published earlier this year hopefully will streamline the backlog that currently exists in the courts. The bill will establish a District Family Court, a Circuit Family Court and a Family High Court as divisions within the current court structures, each dealing with family-law matters as appropriate to its jurisdiction.

Specialised Judges will be in sitting in these courts which will be of fantastic benefit to clients in the future.

In other updates, it is also anticipated that lone parents will no longer have to include child maintenance payments when they are getting means tested for their allowance.

This will be a relief to parents who now should be able to keep their lone parents allowance while getting their maintenance.
