New legislation will commence in Ireland in the next couple of months dealing with hate crime.
The new legislation will criminalise any intentional or reckless communication that is likely to incite violence or hatred against a person or persons who are associated with a protected characteristic, e.g. race, religion, gender, etc.
This new legislation will be one of the strictest in the EU and has been subject to much support and criticism.
