Starting from 1 January 2023 new whistleblowing legislation with be commenced.

The Protected Disclosures Amendment Act 2022 amends the previous Protected Disclosures Act 2014 and expands the scope to include protections for volunteers, shareholders, board members, and job applicants for the first time.

Private sector employers with 250 employees or more will now have to set up formal channels for workers to report concerns about wrongdoing in the workplace.

This will obviously add a more onerous task on employers in order to adhere to the new legislation.
