Legislation has been drafted providing for the registration and regulation of childminders.
The Child Care (amendment) Bill 2024 will remove exemptions for childminders under the previous act and facilitate the regulation of all paid and non-relative childminders.
It is envisaged that this will help childminders access subsidies under the National Childcare Scheme.
Most importantly it creates an enforcement option available to authorities which allows the immediate closure of non registered child service providers.
